Lotería de Córdoba and Parental Control Apps

In an effort to curb gambling among minors and teenagers, the Lotería de Córdoba has unveiled a set of three parental control applications—Gamban, Qustodio, and Betblocker—as part of a broader initiative. These apps, available for download from the provincial lottery’s website, are designed to help adults block access to online gambling platforms for minors in their care. They also provide functionality to block virtual wallets and prevent minors from accessing gambling-related content.

David Urreta, president of the Lotería de Córdoba, emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding youth from online gambling. “Our primary goal is the protection of young people, and these tools allow parents to better manage their children's interaction with gambling platforms. Combined with our participation in schools and clubs through the Responsible Gaming initiative, we believe these measures will help keep young individuals away from activities meant for adults,” Urreta explained.

Vice president Néstor Gómez added that the lottery is also in the process of developing its own parental control app, further supporting parents in protecting their children from gambling risks. "These tools are expected to be of great assistance to those responsible for minors," he noted.

The decision to implement these apps follows a report from the Defender of the People of Córdoba, which revealed that 18.7% of adolescents between the ages of 14 and 17 admitted to having participated in online gambling. This alarming statistic prompted the Lotería de Córdoba to take action, aiming to prevent further underage gambling by providing parents with enhanced control over their children’s online activities.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure that gambling remains an adult-only activity, with a focus on preventing underage exposure to online betting environments.
